I was looking for a dried cat food that was as near as possible to a natural diet and I am very impressed with it - my three cats absolutely love it.

I heard of Akela through a friend who knew I was looking for a healthier more meat based dry food for my ferrets.
Too many dry ferret food products have wheat based in their foods which is not a natural feed for ferrets, and not enough meat based in their foods. My vet who works a lot with ferrets, told me that wheat was not good for them and just a bulking agent that these companies use. He told me to use a mainly meat based diet but I did need to use a dry food too as my ferrets enjoy this and they are too fussy to have meat all the time.
I can thoroughly recommend Akela dry cat food and the wet food as my ferrets have had no problem moving over to this more natural diet.
I did check with a lady who works at Akela that this would be fine for my ferrets to use as it obviously is classed mainly as a cat food, she assured me that it was fine to use for ferrets as she has ferrets herself and has started them on this. This helped me decide to give Akela Cat food a go and I have not looked back. My ferrets enjoy the dry food and on occasion have the wet cat food.
It may cost more than most ferret foods but it is well worth the cost to have healthy, happy ferrets eating what is right for them.

I have 4 cats, all fairly fussy and they all LOVE Akela dry cat food. I was really surprised they would love it so much as I have tried other well known 80/20 etc food and only 1 or 2 will eat it.
I went out for the day recently leaving bowls of their usual favourite down alongside Akela and it was the Akela bowls that were clean when I came home so it is a winner in this household and I will be stocking up when I find a deal :)

I've struggled to find a cat food that my cats can keep down. I've tried wet food, dry food and they vomit most of it up. Changed them to the Akela dry cat food ( not tried the wet food yet) and no vomit anymore! They love it!

How It's Made

Akela kibble is extruded with a Thermal Twin extruder using the lowest temperatures possible; producing more digestible foods without the nutrient degradation that can be seen at high temperature processing. The extrusion and drying processes do not use very high temperatures – just over 90 degrees centigrade (the minimum for safety reasons) and under 180 degrees centigrade - this is lower than you would cook a pizza at! This means that proteins stay highly digestible and natural vitamins and minerals survive the process better. Some ingredients are added after extrusion too - for example all vitamin levels stated in the nutritional additive section are added after cooking to guarantee minimum levels.
