Happy dogs happy dog "Mum"After receiving a sample of this in a doggy bag at a dog show, and finding that both my two dogs would go mental just to get a few treats I made a tough decision to switch. We are still in a 70/30 split of new food to their old food, but what can I say, they get so excited at meal times, although previously trying to feed my sensitive 2year old gsd 80:20 food in the past I was a little worried that my girls sensitive tummy would flare again, but I've been pleased that she has done fine throughout the switchover, and my 11year old lab who has HD and was pretty funky on his his back legs but since being on this food he has improved noticeably he's even wanted to play and he's a lot more upbeat which obviously has sold me. My only hope is that like other foods that this food doesn't soar up in price as other companies have done. But I've probably shot myself in the foot by recommending Akela to all my friends lol. Genuinely thanks for creating a food that's got high quality ingredients for a price that I can afford. As long as my dogs are thriving I'm super happy xx

Mum and pup love this foodI have a 4 1/2 yr old lab bitch and her 12 wk old bitch puppy. I've fed them on Akela for just over a month now and both love it. Pup has no bowel problems with this food and mum's itchy belly has greatly improved as feeding her 6 puppies made her belly very itchy :( I've always fed my adult bitch on what I thought was good quality dried food, then I discovered this food on the internet and this really is good quality food. Yes it is more expensive per kilo weight than the last dried food, but because I have to feed her less with this, Akela works out at about the same price, if not less. There is never any food left in both dishes with this food, both dogs love the Fish Feast. My only problem is getting my husband to weigh out the food and not just guess the weight. He's still trying to get his brain around the fact that they don't need so much of this food. I've started feeding mum 3 times a day as she was a bit upset that pup was getting food and not her, but I find by doing this she doesn't eat so fast as before. Also the postal service from WholePrey is great, so buy from them with no concerns.

Resolved 'hotspots' in golden retrieverMy 8 year old Golden Retriever had a terrible year last year suffering permanently form wet eczema spots- as soon as one had healed another would appear. The vet could only offer antibiotics and steroids, but although my Milo had been on the same (rice based) food all his life and had been fine I wanted to try going more natural.
Once on Akela his coat recovered, he regained his shine and no more hotspots!!! He is very active for his age and looks great now, being a healthy weight.
I wonder if while younger he was able to cope with the grains in his food, at a later age he develop this reaction to it. I have since put all three of my dogs on Akela and am always congratulated on how well and beautiful they look!Posted on

Couldn't be happierI recommend this product to everyone who asks. The choice of kibble size is perfect for my small dogs. The quality and consistency in size is superb. The fact that it's grain free is even better as one of my dogs has some unidentified allergies which cause itching. Some foods make it worse but this is perfect for us. He never used to like kibble, but the other day, I ran out so just gave him his wet portion and he looked at me all disappointed. My dogs adore this so much, I have to use slow feeder bowls :-)

Excellent product, excellent service, excellent price!I started my Cockapoo pup on Akela fish feast at about 4 months old. She had suffered with tummy troubles from day one and we had tried various foods, none of which seemed to agree with her. After doing a bit of research and reading many reviews we decided to give Akela a try. So happy we did. Tummy/toilet issues settled straight away, she started growing, has beautiful fur, bright eyes and a very waggy tail! Recently we have introduced the Duck variety, also with no adverse effects. A good quality, high protein food which is very affordable and an excellent, fast delivery service. It's safe to say we love Akela as much as our beautiful dog does!

Fantastic! Echo loves it!!Echo loves this food!!
As a pup, we'd tried a couple of different foods and she'd had terrible diarrhoea on them both. Within couple of weeks of switching to Akela she started producing firmer, smaller and less potent deposits! :-)
I have recommended this food to other people of a Labrador Facebook page.
The delivery service we've had has been excellent, and so far has been delivered days before expected so thank you!
Echo turns 1 this week so as a treat I'm going to order the original flavour as well this time and see how she gets along with that.Posted on

Brilliant foodWe switched our springer spaniel over to Akela within a month of picking him up from the breeders. The difference in his stools was amazing and he settled on the food brilliantly well, in fact I wish he'd eat a bit slower! We definitely would recommend Akela products to any dog owner having also purchased their fish cube treats and the customer service advice is wonderful! I just wish they'd stock it in pet shops too!

ExcellentSince changing to this my 2 boys have more energy, they are free fed and a perfect weight, One did have skin issues but not anymore. The choice not only of flavour but the different sizes is also a real positive. So pleased I found this food and the service from Wholeprey had been top class.

Great protein food and happy springerKaizer is our 6mth old springer spaniel and we have been advised to change his food as he was having far too hyperactive behaviour after giving him ‘’pedigree’’ food.
We have done loads of research as we wanted to give him the best. Then we found Akela (Fish Feast 80:20 )and we were amazed with the food ingredients. It is a great protein dog food.
Kaizer’s hyper mood has changed to better, his stool is nice and solid, he digests the food very well, his teeth are healthy and strong and loads of people have also commented on his shiny coat.
He is definitely a one happy dog.Posted on

How It's Made
Akela kibble is extruded with a Thermal Twin extruder using the lowest temperatures possible; producing more digestible foods without the nutrient degradation that can be seen at high temperature processing. The extrusion and drying processes do not use very high temperatures – just over 90 degrees centigrade (the minimum for safety reasons) and under 180 degrees centigrade - this is lower than you would cook a pizza at! This means that proteins stay highly digestible and natural vitamins and minerals survive the process better. Some ingredients are added after extrusion too - for example all vitamin levels stated in the nutritional additive section are added after cooking to guarantee minimum levels.
